{Talk to the Vendor: Double Take Photography}

November 1st, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

It my pleasure to introduce a new post format you will be seeing a lot of in the future, Talk to the Vendor!  Going forward Honey Sweet Love is excited to promote local vendors from your area and give you a chance to see their work and hear tips and advice they have to share!

Our first vendor is Jean

with Double Take Photography.

She loves to be a wedding photography because she gets to share one of the happiest days of peoples’ lives with them and document that joy through photography.  For Jean, that’s as good as it gets!

What are the three recommendations you give every Bride/Host(ess)?  1. Save a bit of time for some romantic portraits after the stress of the day has died down and the light has softened. These photos usually end up being favorites from the day.  2.On the wedding day, don’t sweat the small stuff you can’t change. It always works out in the end. Relax

What are two most frequently asked questions by your clients?  1. How long have you been a wedding photographer? (Officially since 2007)  2. Did you ever have any formal training? (No, self-taught.)

BRONCOS or VANDALS? Don’t worry this won’t affect your business…or will it?  I’m a nerd who spends a vast amount of time in front of my Mac editing photos… who are these Broncos and Vandals you speak of?

What do you think the Boise area offers, as a wedding/event venue, that other locations don’t?  A sense of community.  Boise is such a friendly, warm city.  You can’t find that just any place.  Boise is also amazingly beautiful and has a wide variety of venue options that provide a lot of diversity.

What are the elements that make up your ideal wedding/event (a band over a DJ, simple floral arrangements, large guest list, photographic venue…)?  True love and genuine emotion.  No matter the venue or details, if the couple is passionate about each other, that’s my ideal wedding.

Finish this sentence:  I love my work because… I adore creating beautiful images of happy people who are in love!

{The Bride’s Shoes}

Your shoes.

It’s a subtle touch and rarely seen under the dress.  Shoes are a small piece of your wedding masterpiece but they sure can pack a punch!

A personal style favorite (I know, I know… you aren’t here to get tips from my personal style closet) is a glamorous dress and a statement shoe.  On the other hand, I can’t get enough of the fancy shoes photography shot while Bride hikes up dress to her knees and Groom shows off his sock selection.  You know the photo I’m talking about.

Below are some traditional shoes spiced up!

{Wedding Day Hair}

Your hair.

A reflection of your personality and a toast to your style.  Whether it is formal and elegant or loose and casual – the choice is yours.   The current trend of a formal gown with loose and messy hair is popular and I couldn’t agree more with the brides making that decision.

The advice for all brides is to try a few styles.  Get with your stylist or try it on yourself.  You can’t tryout the day-of-’do too many times.  Practice makes perfect and your hair performance is no exception.  Try not to pick a look too trendy or too high maintenance.  It’s going to be a long day and there is only so much “touching-up” you can do to a formal ‘do.

{Save the Dates from Minted}

June 2nd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Your Save the Dates (only necessary if your wedding is far enough out) will be the first wedding detail your guests see.  This will be their first hint at what’s to come on your big day.  Do you want to hint at location?  Or what about the formal flavor you are going for?  Do you have engagement pictures you want to include?

There are many options on vendors for save the dates and invitations.  I’d like to highlight one here, Minted.  This online design company does it right.  They are in the low to mid range for prices as well.  I told you they do it right.  Here are some samples of what they have to offer as Save the Dates.  Check them out yourself for many more.

{Bridal Party Style}

June 2nd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Whether you are a bridesmaid or a bride, you want the bridal party looking good.   Like your Groom, they are an extension of your style.  This is the only time in your life you get to tell people what to wear – well, except for when you have kids that are too young to resist your urge to clothe them head to toe is some hideous brand or trend you swear by at the time.

By now you have seen the magazines, blogs and have been to weddings where the bridesmaids are mismatched showcasing different colors, patterns, and styles yet are all clinging to one similar theme – whatever theme YOU choose.  Personally, I’m a fan of this idea.  But you aren’t reading for my opinion, as it is as valuable as any Mrs. Joe Schmoe off of the street.

What I will provide you with are some great images of this style in action.  I’ve pulled some group shots as well as individual dress ideas.  When looking – keep in mind the package deal – hairstyles, accessories, and shoes!  The dress is only one piece of the puzzle – and all girls know it’s all about the hair, accessories, and shoes!  Don’t skimp on the details.
